Broder Cards
In our hobby, there are sometimes cards produced in which the manufacturer didn't get permission from Major League Baseball or other parties before printing the cards, and therefore the publisher doesn't pay any licensing fees. These unlicensed cards are often called "Broders" as a generic term.
The name Broder has been givent o these cards thanks to many of the earlier unlicensed cards being produced by an amateur photographer whose name was Broder. Many of these cards featured great photography. One of the most popular Broder cards is an early 1990's Michael Jordan baseball card done in the style of the 1986 Donruss baseball set.
Broder cards can be fun to collect, but have no investment value due to the fact they can be reproduced at any time because they are unlicensed.
